Emfluence User Conference 2011
Tammy Nigus and I were fortunate enough to attend the emfluence user conference at Boulevard Brewing Co. this year. For those of you that may not know, emfluence is a local digital marketing agency we have partnered with on various email marketing, social media and mobile marketing projects.
The day began with the sweetly pungent aroma of the Boulevard brewery and a breathtaking view of downtown Kansas City. We picked up our obligatory nametags and began socializing in a room crowded with nearly 150 other marketing professionals. David Cacioppo, the CEO of emfluence, started the conference with a brief introduction and a witty top ten list on why his arm was in a sling. Interestingly, I never figured out the real story behind the sling (maybe that will be a follow-up post). There was one item David said that really stuck with me. He stated that when working in the world of digital marketing, specifically social media, it is important to not only be human, but to be a likeable and valuable human.

The conference covered topics ranging from email marketing best practices to the potential of cross-promotion across digital mediums. Midway though the day a dapper looking guest speaker with the most magnificent mustache I had ever seen took the podium. He was from Park University and spoke of how emfluence helped them reenergize and redefine their enrollment strategies, but I struggled to follow as I was completely captivated by his amazing display of facial hair artistry! After the presentations we participated in various breakout sessions on landing pages, social media and mobile marketing to discuss ways in which we could implement our learning’s. The day ended with an open bar and free pizza from (in•grē•di•ent). Not a bad way to end a day!
Tammy and I left with several ideas to be implemented into the new and improved Summit Marketing website. We also walked away realizing we have a strong strategic partner in emfluence and there are more ways than we realized to leverage their resources. Look for good things in the future as we continue to forge forward into the world of digital marketing!
Now, go forth and be likeable, valuable humans!
